The historical museum, probably the most meaningful part of the co-op, is situated downstairs from the gift shop. A sign above the wide-open stairway clearly indicates the way. This museum is a true delight as it contains all kinds of artifacts depicting life as the Acadians of the region knew it many years ago. Old household items, an old loom, an old barber's chair, books, pictures, religious items, and a multitude of other very precious things that have been preserved through the years, are there for you to browse through and enjoy.
A well-informed guide will take you through the tour of the museum and will explain and show you, starting with the stuffed sheep and ending with the finished product, how the wool was carded and spun before it could be used for knitting or for hooking. The museum also has a small mat (about 30" by 16") on a frame for your input. The pattern is normally one of squares which are hooked with different colours of wool. You will be invited to hook your own little strip, in the colour of your choice. (See picture) You will then be invited to put your name and address on a piece of paper and deposit it in an old butter churn. At the end of the summer, before closing time, one name will be picked from the churn, and the lucky person will receive the finished mat. It's an absolute 'must see' and 'must do' when you come to the Coopérative Artisanale.
